The crew over at PopCap Games have never been more excited to be developing and releasing innovative and addictive games. These fun-loving and creatively clever folks stationed in Seattle have been cooking with wild ingredients to make buzz worthy games which we thoroughly enjoy consuming. PopCap is known for some of the most fiercely entertaining casual games around, such as Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle. Within 2 years, the success of Plants vs. Zombies was so unexpected that PopCap immediately began working on an equally delicious second release to accompany the legendary zombie slayer.
On the surface, this game appears to be simple and, quite honestly, boring. You have a simple square panel to plant a few different types of plants on. Each plant choice grants the player a unique ability– for example, a sunflower generates more sun to plant more plants. A corn cob is more powerful; stunning oncoming zombies with butter bombs. As your plants begin to do their jobs, zombies show up and attempt to demolish your beloved flora into un-dead oblivion. The animations are overtly cute and playful, never giving the impression that there is real danger ahead.
However, as you begin to play and the waves of challengers exceeds your supplies, the game gains its appeal. The obstacles grow larger in unexpected waves that immediately probe the player to pull from unknown, new resources and change their game plan in order to survive.
New plant food power ups allow the player to control their strength and ability against the zombies. It frosts the heavy weight of tower defense with the sweet pink icing of a cutesy puzzle. Did I mention you are fighting zombies with plants? How randomly delightful can it get? Bring your fork and knife, it’s going to be scrumptious.
That’s 1.8 million downloads a day! Considering the game is currently available exclusively via the iOs platform, time will tell how many more undead gardener warriors will surface.
The capability of anyone to enjoy playing Plants vs. Zombies 2 is inevitable. Whether you enjoy searching for tactical analysis and strategy, or randomly plant and succeed, it’s a game that triggers your brain to think in creative and unique ways without overwhelming your ability to be lighthearted about it.
It’s casual gaming at its finest, and we can’t wait to see where it catapults from here. Our first request? We’re eager to see it on all platforms! Bon appetit!
